Because it’s Friday: Moleskine Animation

One of my favourite items in my work bag is my Moleskine Notebook. There’s something so tactile about it. It’s going to be a long time before technology comes far enough to replace it.

As much as I like my Moleskine I wouldn’t consider it the ideal foundation for an animation, thankfully others have more imagination than I do:

Because it’s Friday: London Heathrow Approach Time-Lapse

I’m not quite sure why I find this video so intriguing, but I do. It’s a really simple idea, you film the planes approaching London Heathrow Airport in time-lapse and they turn into flying toys:

Because it’s Friday: Contact Juggling with Akihiro Yanai

As someone who’s dexterity stretches just about as far as being able to type with more than one finger I’m always amazed at other peoples ability and skills. I can barely juggle two balls and have never entered into a circle of keepy-uppy so the feats that Akihiro manages to perform are a complete mystery to me.

The video quality isn’t great but the spectacle is amazing:

If you want some more juggling bafflement try this one too (about 6 mins into it there are four guys playing keepy-uppy with their elbows!):

Because it's Friday: Beautiful Time-lapse World

Sometimes we need to see a different perspective of something to see it for what it is. Time-lapse video has a way of opening our eyes to things not seen. This one was filmed in various places around the globe:

Because it’s Friday: London Tube Notice Trolling

Some people have had a lot of fun modifying the notices on the London Tube.

I particularly like the ones where they’ve updated the stations and added in some random locations:

Because it’s Friday: Old School Techie Music

Can an old HP ScanJet 3C really play lead vocals to Somebody That I Used to Know?

What do you do with your equipment when it gets old?

Because it’s Friday: What’s in a word?

I hated English at school, I’m not really sure why. It took me into my late teens before I enjoyed any reading or writing.

Chipping Vale after the stormBut I have never got over my incredulity at the inconsistencies of the language.

Words fascinate me though.

A project, currently underway, called The Mysteries of Vernacular seeks to explain the wonders of words through animation. There are only a few words at the moment, but  they are being added all the time. Who knew that the word hearse had been through such a journey? Or that clue started with a word for a ball of string?

Because it’s Friday: Land Art

I took a day off this week and spent it walking around Grizedale Forest in the Lake District.

We’ve always loved the combination of the beauty of nature and the various sculptures and installations around the place. I think land art is brilliant and I thought I would share some with you today:

Because it’s Friday: Dream Music: Part 2

Another example of fabulous stop motion goodness from people with bucket loads of patience. This video apparently took 15,000 stills (according to the description on Vimeo):

Because it’s Friday: Aerial 3D Panoramas

I remember the days when we used to marvel at the clarity of pictures in 256 colours, then we moved to thousands and millions of colours. Then we started representing things in 3D.

AirPano.com is a project that takes areal pictures of places, moulds them into a 3D space and lets you fly around them.

Some of my favourites:

Venice, Italy:

The Matterhorn, Switzerland:

Angel Waterfall of Venezuela:

Moai Statues, Easter Island, Chile

Or take your pick from their world map.
