Windows Live Writer – English Dictionary Please

La PaludI’m still using Windows Live Writer. Up until now it has done a number of things better than BlogJet, and the things it does worse are less important. I say up until now because the lack of a proper English dictionary is starting to bug me.

As a slight aside:

Why is is “emphasis” and “emphasize”?

English makes much more sense “emphasis” and “emphasise”.

  1. Graham, just read this post and it has set me of again on one of my personal gripes: The gradual appearance of American-English into English-English.
We have “male hen” just round the corner that insists on waking us up at stupid o’clock. I have heated discussions with my 5 and 7 year old daughters that this is in fact a cockrel and not a rooster! Maybe they should watch less of Nick Jr. eh?
Organize. What’s all that about, it’s Organise!
Oh yes, and one more. Gotten. There is no such word!
There, I think I am done now thanks.

  2. I have worked in the USA and it is disconcerting to be accused of inventing words. This was in response to my use of amongst. Nevermind the standard examples of fortnight, centre, etc. and the spellings you mention – now Aluminium both spelling and pronounciation is a really annoying. Havinbg just listened to Steve Jobs talking about the new iPods with Aluminum!!
Do they have Magnesum, or Titanum?
    Argh!
